Deer skin and pangolin scales recovered in Siliguri, one arrested

Siliguri, 21st November: Based on a tip-off, the forest workers of Sarugara Range of Baikunthapur Forest Department recovered deer skin and pangolin scales from the Odlabari bypass area, on Sunday early morning. A person identified as Bishnu Jain was arrested in the incident.


 

According to forest department sources, three people from Tezpur in Assam were transporting deer skin and pangolin scales to Nepal for smuggling at around 4 am in the morning. After receiving a tip-off, the forest workers set up a base in the area adjacent to the Odlabari bypass. However, two smugglers tried to escape from the spot. The forest workers successfully nabbed one of them. 155 cm deer skin and 2 kg 100 grams of pangolin scales were recovered from their possession.


The arrested accused was sent to Jalpaiguri court today. An investigation has been launched into the whole incident.
