Darjeeling women murdered in Delhi: Raju Bista lauds Delhi Police for prompt action, demands stringent action against the culprits

Darjeeling, 18th November: Delhi Police arrested five individuals in connection with the murder of Meena Rai of Chandraman Village, Mirik, and Sujala Gurung Pradhan of Mangarjung T.E. The five accused had entered the house to rob, and both Meena and Sujala were killed after they woke up in the course of the robbery. Around Rs 90 lakh rupees have been recovered from the robbers.


On 16th November 2021, Darjeeling MP Raju Bista requested Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana for immediate intervention. as people from North East India, including Gorkhas from Darjeeling hills, Terai, and Dooars region are highly vulnerable in a big city like Delhi, where they have faced innumerable racist attacks in the past. He had therefore requested for expedited investigations into these killings, and better provisioning of security to the people.

“On behalf of the people from Darjeeling Hills, Terai, and Dooars, I thank Delhi Police Officials for ensuring swift and thorough investigations. The resolution of the case within two days shows the remarkable professionalism of Delhi Police. I am most hopeful that the Courts too will take stringent view of the crime and set an exemplary punishment against the perpetrators,” Bista stated.
