Siliguri, 18th June: The Darjeeling District Youth Congress Committee organised a protest rally in Siliguri on Thursday against the NEET controversy and the rise in prices of petrol, diesel and cooking gas.
According to reports, Youth Congress workers and supporters took out the rally to voice their opposition to the alleged irregularities surrounding NEET as well as the increase in fuel and LPG prices.
The protest later moved to Hashmi Chowk, where demonstrators attempted to burn an effigy of the Union Education Minister. However, they were stopped by police and central forces deployed at the spot.
The situation led to an argument and a brief scuffle between Youth Congress workers and police personnel during the protest.
