Darjeeling district Trinamool Congress protests against demand to make North Bengal a separate Union Territory

Siliguri, 18th June: Some BJP leaders have demanded bifurcation of West Bengal and carving out a Union Territory comprising North Bengal districts out of the state.

Darjeeling district Trinamool Congress district president Ranjan Sarkar held a press conference on the issue on Friday.

Ranjan Sarkar said BJP is trying to confuse the people through the Gorkhaland issue. He alleged that the party is only trying to divide Bengal. However, as long as Mamata Banerjee is the Chief Minister, no conspiracy to divide Bengal will be accepted.

He added that from the very first day of the Trinamool Congress government, the central government and its allies have been trying to divide and conquer Bengal. However, nothing as such will be possible while Mamata Banerjee is the Chief Minister of the state.
