Siliguri, 25th August: The Darjeeling District Citizens Committee handed over a memorandum to Siliguri Police Commissioner Gaurav Sharma regarding a dispute that broke out between two parties in the Ashraf Nagar area in Ward No. 40 of Siliguri Municipal Corporation.

Furthermore, the locals also raised questions on the role of police after the area’s CCTV footage surfaced where the alleged accused can be clearly seen dauntlessly moving around with a sword in his hand in front of the police.

Muhammad Nurul Islam, secretary of the Darjeeling District Citizens’ Committee, said that on August 20, Aashiq Malik alias Guddu got into a fight with some local youths along with his associates. The incident was also resolved after mutual talks. However, Guddu continued to pick on a fight with them. Islam also alleged that the accused waived his weapon in front of the police, but no action was taken against him.

Meanwhile, the pressure on the police increased significantly after the CCTV footage of the incident came to light. The Police Commissioner took complete information about this incident from the officials of Bhaktinagar police station.

Sources say that several complaints have been registered against Guddu in Bhakti Nagar police station. On the other hand, DCP Zone One Joy Tudu has said that a case has been registered in Bhakti Nagar police station. The case is under investigation.
