COVID-19 Impact: Siliguri Champasari Bazar to be shut down for 10 days

Siliguri, 15th June: During a meeting at the State Guest House today, the Siliguri Champasari Bazar which comes under Ward No. 46 will be shut down for 10 days as a containment measure starting Wednesday.


Siliguri SDO Sumanta Sahay, Commissioner of Siliguri Municipal Corporation Sonam Wangdi Bhutia, high ranking officials of the Siliguri Police Commisionerate and the Champasari Vyabasayee Samiti members were present during the meeting.

As per the information, such an initiative has been taken in light of the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in Siliguri Ward No. 46. It is to be noted that 7 positive cases were reported from the aforementioned ward yesterday. While the Siliguri Regulated Market has already been closed from today, the Champasri Bazar will also be shut down from Wednesday.


During a press conference, the Commissioner and SDO stated that from Wednesday, the markets from the Champasari Bazaar area up to Sri Guru Vidya Mandir will remain closed for 10 days. Miking is likely to be carried out in the entire ward to raise awareness and everyone will be urged to step out of their homes only in case of emergencies.
