Siliguri, 27th July: A written complaint has been lodged at Siliguri Police Station against actress Sreelekha Mitra over allegations of displaying an objectionable poster of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a recent protest.
According to the complainants, the actress was seen holding an objectionable poster of the Prime Minister while participating in the demonstration. Expressing their objection to the incident, a group of Siliguri residents submitted a written complaint at the police station on Monday.
One of the complainants, Soumitra Sanyal, said that every citizen has the democratic right to hold peaceful protests, but insulting the country’s democratically elected Prime Minister is unacceptable. He said that was the reason for filing the written complaint.
He further claimed that after the issue came to light, Sreelekha Mitra stated on social media that she was not wearing her spectacles and therefore did not know what image was printed on the poster she was holding. According to the complainants, the explanation is not acceptable and the matter should be properly investigated.
The complainants have urged the administration to conduct an impartial investigation and take appropriate legal action in the matter.
