Siliguri, 24th May: Tension prevailed in the Tulsi Nagar area under Matigara Police Station after a clash broke out between two groups over a religious issue on Sunday.
According to sources, a minor argument quickly escalated into a major confrontation, bringing the two sides face-to-face. The situation soon turned violent, leading to a physical altercation in which several people sustained injuries.
After receiving information about the incident, teams from the police and central forces rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. A heavy police picket, along with central force personnel, has since been deployed in the area to maintain law and order.
The police administration has appealed to residents from both sides to maintain peace. An investigation into the incident is currently underway, while authorities continue to keep the situation under close surveillance.
