City auto drivers take to streets of Siliguri demanding restriction of unauthorized totos on roads

Siliguri, 06th July: The city’s auto drivers took to the streets today with a demand to restrict unauthorized e-rickshaws (Toto) from plying on the city’s main roads.

On Tuesday, a group of auto drivers went to the SDO’s office and issued a memorandum to restrict totos without number plates from plying on the streets. The drivers stopped their vehicles in front of Vivekananda Bhawan and staged a protest. They also warned of staging larger demonstrations if their demands are not met.

The auto drivers said that they are facing difficulties in paying their EMIs and taxes after purchasing new autos by taking a loan from banks. They further alleged that since vehicle movement was closed for a long time due to restrictions across the state, the city auto drivers faced huge losses. Moreover, plying unauthorized totos on the roads has reduced the number of passengers.
