CGST arrests betel nut trader for tax evasion of Rs 12 crore in Siliguri

Siliguri, 25th January: The team of CGST Intelligence has arrested a betel nut trader for tax evasion of Rs 12 crores. The accused has been identified as Rajesh Kumar Sharda, a resident of Dhupguri.


Reportedly, the accused Rajesh Kumar had earned a total of Rs 25 crore from the betel nut business in the financial year 21-22. Investigating the matter for the last year, the CGST Intelligence team uncovered that the trader had evaded tax of Rs 12 crore by fabricating documents. After which CGST issued a summons to Rajesh. After the summons was issued, Rajesh reached the office of the Directorate General of CGST on Tuesday. After this, the CGST team arrested Rajesh Kumar Sharda after interrogating him.

The accused Rajesh Kumar Sharda was presented in the Siliguri Divisional court where after hearing the arguments of the government and the defense side, the judge directed Rajesh Kumar Sharda to be kept in judicial custody for 14 days.
