Cash gutted as ATM catches fire during theft bid in Siliguri

Siliguri, 07th November: A shocking incident unfolded at Shiv Mandir in Siliguri where an ATM caught fire after 8 unidentified miscreants attempted to break into the cash dispensing machine with a gas cutter. Reportedly, a short circuit from the gas cutter caused the ATM to catch fire.


According to reports, the incident occurred, on Monday night, in the Power House Shantipara area of Shiv Mandir when eight miscreants broke into the ATM and attempted to cut into the vault with a gas cutter. Meanwhile, a Matigara police van was patrolling over the vicinity when two cops noticed the attempted theft and entered the ATM counter to capture the miscreants in action. Upon being confronted by the police, the thieves attacked the officials with iron rods and somehow managed to evade authorities. The police officers were shoved and thrown aside as the miscreants allegedly drove away in a white vehicle.

Following this, the police checked the CCTV footage of the moment and initiated an investigation. In the meantime, on Tuesday, the employees of the ATM maintenance agency recovered the burnt cash.
