Naxalbari, 30th October: This morning, a carcass of a baby elephant was recovered from the Satbhaiya Tea Garden of Naxalbari. Locals reported the incident to the forest department and the Tukriajhar and Bagdogra Forest Department personnel reached the spot and dug the soil to recover the calf.
According to the forest personnel, when the elephant calf fell into the drain of the tea garden, the herd of elephants might have tried to rescue the calf but could not succeed. The carcass was later sent for post-mortem.
