Buyers crowd Belakoba Kisan Mandi despite COVID-19 lockdown

Rajganj, 15th April: Despite the nation-wide lockdown, several people are still being sighted on the streets and the market premises, deliberately ignoring the lockdown.

Earlier, a piece of news regarding people being spotted buying commodities in the Belakoba Kisan Mandi area without maintaining social distance was published. After this, on April 11, the District Magistrate Abhishek Tiwari, Sub-divisional Officer Ranjan Kumar Das, Jalpaiguri District-in-council President Uttara Barman, Rajganj MLA Khageshwar Roy, BDO NC Sherpa, and the Belakoba Checkpost police inspected the area and decided that the wholesale market will operate 4 days in a week, i.e. Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. Miking was also carried out in the area to make people aware of the decision.

However, it has been alleged that despite this, the wholesale market was open for only 2 days a week. This is leading to more crowding in the market further violating the government protocols.
