Burmese teak wood worth Rs 20 lakhs seized in Rajganj 

Rajganj, 11th July: Forest workers of Belakoba under the leadership of Ranger Sanjay Dutta confiscated a large quantity of Burma teak from a truck on Siliguri-Jalpaiguri National Highway.


According to sources, the team received a tip-off regarding the wood being illegally smuggled from Assam to Kolkata. Acting promptly, the personnel conducted a campaign and apprehended a truck in the Dasdarga area on Monday. 

Upon searching, stacks of teak wood hidden under gunny bags filled with bottles were recovered. The truck driver and his assistant were immediately taken into custody. The accused have been identified as Gyan Chandra (40) and Rohit Gupta (18) residents of Uttar Pradesh. The accused will be produced in the Jalpaiguri district court on Tuesday.
