Siliguri, 22nd May: A brazen theft was reported at a grocery shop in the Bhalobasa More area under Fulbari I Gram Panchayat, which falls under NJP Police Station limits in Siliguri.
According to reports, miscreants targeted the shop late on Thursday night by cutting through the tin roof of the establishment. The incident came to light on Friday morning when the shop owner arrived to open the store.
The thieves allegedly stole several thousand rupees kept inside the cash box along with multiple items, including cartons of edible oil and other goods from the shop.
After receiving information, police from NJP Police Station reached the spot and launched an investigation into the incident. CCTV footage from the area is being examined as part of the probe.
Shop owner Anand Saha claimed that although several CCTV cameras had earlier been installed in the locality, they were removed around a year ago. He alleged that incidents of theft have increased in the area since then.
