Rajganj, 29th June: Ending months of speculation, the BJP has secured the post of Pradhan in Belakoba Gram Panchayat, with Uttam Roy being elected as the new head of the panchayat.
On Monday, the election for the Pradhan was held at the Belakoba Gram Panchayat office, where a festive atmosphere prevailed in the premises. Following the vote, BJP-backed candidate Uttam Roy was elected as the new Pradhan. BJP workers and supporters celebrated the victory with abir and music, expressing their joy.
Notably, in the 2023 Panchayat elections, out of 29 seats in Belakoba Gram Panchayat, BJP had won 15 seats, Trinamool Congress 12 seats, and independent candidates secured 2 seats. At that time, Purnima Roy, who had won on a BJP ticket, was later allegedly forced to join the Trinamool Congress, leading to the formation of a TMC board and her appointment as Pradhan.
However, after the political shift in the state, Purnima Roy stepped down from the post of Pradhan on May 22, triggering renewed political discussions over control of the panchayat. After nearly a month, the fresh election brought a new political outcome.
On Monday, 16 out of 29 members participated in the Pradhan election. Among them, 14 BJP members, 1 TMC member, and 1 independent member supported the BJP, ensuring Uttam Roy’s victory as the new Pradhan of Belakoba Gram Panchayat.
