Islampur, 13th July: Devendra Nath Roy BJP MLA of Hematabad was found hanging from a noose in Balia More area under Hematabad police station in North Dinajpur district.
According to sources, locals sighted the 59-year-old’s body hanging from the verandah ceiling of a mobile shop located a kilometre away from his residence. Upon receiving the news, a large police force of Hematabad police station reached the spot, recovered the body and sent to Raiganj Government Medical College-Hospital for an autopsy. An investigation has been launched into the whole incident.
According to the deceased’s family sources, few people visited their house around 1 am that night and took Roy with them. However, he did not return home post his departure. His dead body was later found on Monday morning.
The agitated family members alleged that he was murdered and then hanged to present it as a case of suicide. They have demanded a probe into the MLA’s death.
