Siliguri, 27th June: BJP’s former councillors have proposed the launch of ‘Jan Kalyan Seva Kendras’ across all 47 wards of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation to address public grievances and improve civic services.
A delegation of the former councillors met the Municipal Commissioner on Saturday, presenting their plan for setting up the service centres aimed at ensuring quick resolution of citizens’ issues. They stated that the initiative would remain completely non-political in nature, with no party posters or banners being used, except for the lotus symbol.
During the meeting, the delegation also raised several civic concerns, including drainage problems, parking shortages, and illegal constructions across the city. They also demanded a permanent parking arrangement at the fairground area of Kanchenjunga Stadium, suggesting that while it is used for fairs for two months annually, it should function as a parking facility for the rest of the year.
In addition, the former councillors proposed the introduction of a dedicated helpline number for citizens to directly report grievances and issues.
The Municipal Commissioner assured the delegation that the concerns raised would be taken seriously and necessary steps would be taken for prompt resolution.
