Bhutan confirms the first case of coronavirus in the country

Bhutan, 06th March: Bhutan confirmed the first case of coronavirus in the country, on Friday. The Prime Minister of Bhutan, Lotay Tshering stated that a 76-year-old man from the United States had come to Bhutan on March 2 from Guwahati. He further stated that the patient has a travel history to India.


Considering the patient’s age and his underlying conditions, he has been kept on oxygen support and has been isolated in the COVID-19 hospital.

While all his close contacts are currently showing no sign of symptoms, they have been put on a restriction of movement to prevent the spread of the disease. Eight other Indian passengers have also been put on a restriction of movement.


The Health officials and other relevant agencies are in the process of carrying out primary disease management and contact tracing. The process of contact tracings was launched as per the patient’s planned route. The contacts included the people he associated with at all the points during his journey. The Bhutan government is currently working closely with the Indian embassy.
