Belakoba forest personnel apprehend truck loaded with illegal Burma teak wood, two arrested

Rajganj, 19th December: Forest workers of Belakoba range recovered Burma teak wood worth about Rs 50 lakhs which was being smuggled under piles of pumpkin. 


 

Reportedly, this morning forest personnel under the leadership of ranger Sanjay Dutta intercepted a truck loaded with pumpkins during a campaign in the Rani Nagar area adjacent to Jalpaiguri. During the search, a large quantity of Burma teak wood was recovered. The truck driver and assistant driver were arrested when they failed to produce any valid documents. The accused have been identified as Sheikh Kalim and Syed Naeem, both residents of Maharashtra.


 

 

According to sources, during the interrogation, the accused revealed that the wood was being transported from Guwahati to Kolkata. Both the accused will be produced in the Jalpaiguri district court on Tuesday.
