Banned cough syrup worth lakhs recovered from vehicle with WBSEDCL board in Siliguri, two arrested

Siliguri, 02nd November: In a significant breakthrough, the Special Operations Group (SOG) and the Pradhan Nagar police successfully seized a consignment of banned cough syrup from a vehicle bearing a board of the electricity department. The incident led to the arrest of accused Dulal Chowdhury (40) and Dilip Das (46), both residents of Islampur.


Acting on a tip-off, the SOG and Pradhan Nagar police conducted a raid in the area adjacent to the Circuit House on Wednesday night and held a white four-wheeler bearing a board of the West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (WBSEDCL). During the search, the police recovered seven cartons filled with banned cough syrup bottles with an estimated market value of Rs 5 lakhs. Following an interrogation, the accused driver and his companion were apprehended in the act.

On Thursday, both the accused have been presented before the Siliguri court. Meanwhile, the police have initiated an investigation into the involvement of the WBSEDCL vehicle in the illegal activity. Preliminary investigations indicate that the vehicle bore the board of the electricity department in an effort to swiftly execute the smuggling.
