Siliguri, 23rd May: A campaign was launched by the Dabgram Range of Baikunthpur Forest Department against illegal construction in many places including Siliguri adjoining Chhota Fapri, Khudirampalli. Allegedly, a number of individuals had encroached on the forest lands by setting up tea shops, cultivating vegetables and others.
Owing to the instruction of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the administration has been taking strict action against the land mafia and illegal land grabbers. Likewise, on Monday, on behalf of the Forest Department, a large police force reached the spot and demolished illegal constructions with the help of JCB bulldozer.
Ranger Shyama Prasad Chakladar of Dabgram Range stated that the forest department will not allow private bodies to occupy its land. To prevent such incidents from happening in the future, plants will be planted after vacating all encroached land. Police are proving the whole matter.
