Siliguri, 21st July: An incident of an attempt to rape a minor surfaced from Ashraf Nagar of Ward No. 40 under Siliguri Municipal Corporation. Police arrested the alleged accused who has been identified as MD Ahsanul Haque (28).
According to the sources, the minor girl aged 16, a resident of Ashraf Nagar had gone grocery shopping on Wednesday evening. It is alleged that the owner of the shop, Ahsanul Haque, tried to forcibly rape the minor by taking her next to the shop. Soon a crowd gathered after hearing the minor’s cry for help and caught the accused shopkeeper. After this, the family of the minor along with the locals caught the shopkeeper and informed the Bhaktinagar Police Station.
The police arrived at the spot shortly after and arrested the accused. A written complaint was also lodged in the police station against the accused on behalf of the victim’s family. Today, the police registered a case against the accused under POSCO Act and presented him before the Jalpaiguri court.
