Ashok Bhattacharya returns home after winning the battle against COVID-19

Siliguri, 06th July: Ashok Bhattacharya, former Mayor of the city and presiding Chairman of the Board of Administrators at SMC, won the battle against the novel coronavirus and returned home today after undergoing treatment for 21 days at a private nursing home in Matigara.


Reportedly, Bhattacharya will stay in home quarantine for the next 14 days following the advice of the doctors.

After being discharged from the nursing home today, he was spotted in front of the Anil Biswas Bhawan in Siliguri Venus More, where his party members greeted him with flowers.


It is to recall, Bhattacharya suffered fever and cold, several days ago and initially tested negative for COVID-19. However, as the symptoms persisted, he was admitted to a private nursing home in Matigara, where his swab test was taken once again which came back positive.

As per the information, his health condition deteriorated quite a few times during the course of his treatment. Following this, the doctors consulted with a team of doctors in Kolkata and treated him accordingly. Fortunately, he was discharged from the nursing home today after the fourth swab test came back negative.

After returning home, Bhattacharya urged the citizens to be aware of the current situation and fight against the pandemic with strength and positivity. He further expressed sorrow over the COVID-19 deaths in the past few days and also mourned the untimely demise of Joy Kumar Mahato, a promising footballer of the city.
