Siliguri, 21st June: Amid heavy downpour and flood-like situation in Siliguri on Monday, OC Ashighar OP, SI Sudip Dutta braved all odds to rescue people trapped in the inundated village.
The incessant rainfall since Monday evening left several roads, residential areas, shops and markets flooded in Siliguri. Some parts of the city were flooded with knee to waist-high water causing great inconvenience to the citizens, especially the elderlies and children. When a similar incident was reported from the Ashighar Out Post area, Sudip Dutta rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation.
Upon his arrival, he learned that many people were trapped inside flooded houses. Without waiting for any backups, the OC removed his uniform and entered the submerged area to help the people. In the heroic rescue operation, the policeman was seen carrying the weak and feeble, including a 65 years old lady, elderlies and children to a safe place. Later, IC Amresh Singh of Bhakti Nagar police station also reached the spot.
