Rajganj, 04th August: ASHA workers staged a protest outside Rajganj Rural Hospital on Tuesday following the death of a worker from Bankura.
According to information, the demonstration was organised by the Paschim Banga ASHA Karmi Union, with ASHA workers from different parts of Rajganj block participating in the protest.
The protesters alleged that the conduct of BJP MLA Chandana Bauri was responsible for the death of Rumpa Mondal, an ASHA worker attached to the Gopinathpur Sub-Centre under Gangajalghati Block in Bankura’s Saltora.
They claimed that an ASHA worker was recently reprimanded in an allegedly insulting manner by the MLA over Ayushman Bharat e-KYC-related work. After a video of the incident went viral on social media, ASHA workers reportedly came under severe mental stress.
According to the protesters, Rumpa Mondal fell ill on Monday morning and was taken to hospital, where doctors declared her dead. Following the incident, ASHA workers staged protests at different places.
During the protest at Rajganj Rural Hospital, the demonstrators demanded the resignation of MLA Chandana Bauri and an unconditional apology. They also called for respectful treatment of ASHA workers.
