Siliguri, 15th January: In view of the rising COVID cases across the state, the election commission, on Saturday, issued a notification announcing the postponement of all four municipal elections. As per the decision, the SMC election 2022 will now be held on February 12.
After the notification was issued, Trinamool leader Goutam Deb said “There is nothing much to be said regarding this. The decision has been taken in consultation with experts.”
BJP MLA Shankar Ghosh said, “I welcome any decision meant for the safety of people.”
CPIM leader Ashok Bhattacharya also said, “We were ready for the election. We are ready even if the election is postponed.”
