Siliguri, 29th March: The prime accused in the minor girl death case in Siliguri has been arrested, bringing a significant development in the case that had sparked widespread outrage.
According to reports, the accused, Amir Ali, was apprehended by police from Pradhan Nagar Police Station in another state.
BJP candidate Shankar Ghosh, who had been protesting the incident, ended his four-day sit-in following the arrest. He had earlier suspended his election campaign, demanding swift action in the case. Following the apprehension of the accused, he has resumed campaigning.
Meanwhile, Darjeeling MP Raju Bista stated that the arrest marks only the beginning of the legal process. He emphasized the need for a speedy, fair, and strict investigation to ensure justice.
In response to the incident, Bangiya Hindu Mahamancha had called for a ‘Siliguri Bandh’ on March 30. However, following an appeal by Bista after the arrest, the organization decided to withdraw the bandh.
