A rising football player Albert Tirkey dies in a road accident in Siliguri

Siliguri, 09th September: A budding football player died in a road accident last night near the Vega Circle Mall in 2nd Mile. The deceased has been identified as Albert Tirkey of Gangaram tea garden area of ​​Bagdogra. He used to play for Darjeeling FC and was recognized for his excellent goalkeeping.


According to the information, Albert Tirkey was heading to Dam Dim from Siliguri with his team on a motorcycle, on Wednesday. Tragically, Albert, who was the pillion rider, fell from the motorbike after hitting a truck’s door which unexpectedly sprang open. By the time Albert could gather himself, a car ran over him causing severe injuries. The bike rider was also injured in the accident.

Following this, both the injured players were rushed to a private hospital. Considering Albert’s deteriorating state, he was referred to the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital. Where doctors declared Albert dead.


Meanwhile, his teammate Ashok Kujur was released after initial treatment. Albert Tirkey’s last rites will be held in the Gangaram tea garden area of ​​Bagdogra, today.
