Rajganj, 07th September: 58-year-old man has been accused of attempting to rape his 11-year old granddaughter. The incident surfaced from the Nabagram area of Rajganj’s Sannyasikata Gram Panchayat.
As soon as the matter came to light, the accused was beaten up by the enraged locals. Upon receiving the news, the Rajganj police reached the spot shortly after and arrested the man.
According to local and police sources, both the father and mother of the victim are daily wagers by profession. Allegedly, her of-distant grandfather attempted to rape her when she was home alone.
Meanwhile, the neighbours rushed to the scene after hearing the screams of the girl. Although the accused tried to escape, the locals chased him and successfully got hold of him.
The victim’s mother alleged that they were not present at home due to some work purpose and their daughter was at home playing with two of her friends. The accused allegedly sent her friends away to buy some food items and then tried to rape the girl.
The mother further stated that the matter has been reported to the police and demanded strict punishment for the accused.
Rajganj police stated that the victim will be sent for medical examination and the incident is being investigated.
