41 kept in quarantine tested negative, GTA Chairman Anit Thapa expressed joy

Kalimpong, 16th April: 41 people who were kept at the Quarantine centres of Disha and Marwari Bhawan in Kalimpong all tested negative and were discharged from the centres, today.

On Wednesday, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare classified Kalimpong and Darjeeling of the GTA region under the Non-Hotspots Districts. This brought a sigh of relief to the GTA Chairman Anit Thapa who has been working at ground zero in Kalimpong ever since North Bengal’s first case of novel coronavirus was reported.

“Just two weeks ago I came to Kalimpong Ground Zero to fight this pandemic and today I am proud to say that Kalimpong along with GTA region is COVID Zero region,” Thapa stated.

He further added that from now on GTA will step up the screening process in the border areas and setup its own volunteers to screen cars. Thermal cameras will be installed soon along with CCTV in the borders.

The GTA Chairman also appealed to Darjeeling MP Raju Bista to set up a testing centre in Kalimpong and Darjeeling.
