40 BJP workers detained in a clash with Police in Siliguri

Siliguri, 12th September: Protests were organized by the Bharatiya Janata Party across the state over the arrest of West Bengal BJP’s youth wing president Soumitra Khan for allegedly blocking a road by organising a sit-in outside the city police commissioner’s office.

Likewise, a protest was held on behalf of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) near BJP Siliguri Organizational District Committee Office, on Saturday.

On behalf of the BJYM, the arrest of Khan and the viral audio clip scandal of the professor of Siliguri College was strongly condemned in today’s protest.

Meanwhile, the police intervened the demonstration and detained several BJP activists as the protesters did not have permission to hold the protest. The matter escalated to a conflict between the BJP worker and the policemen.

During the course, the police detained around 40 BJP workers after nearly 30 minutes of furore. Reportedly, the Youth leader of BJYM, Kanchan Debnath collapsed due to the clash with the police. However, after he regained consciousness, the police also took him into custody.

Debnath accused the police of being bias and not allowing BJP to hold any rally or programme. He added that action will be taken against the policemen who act as a cadre of Trinamool Congress after the BJP government comes to power in the state.
