4-year-old child dies tragically in haystack fire in Phansidewa

Phansidewa, 27th November: A 4-year-old child tragically lost his life in a haystack fire in the Amtala area of Bidhannagar in Phansidewa.


Reports indicate that the child had returned home from school on Wednesday and went to play in a nearby paddy field with his cousin. While playing near a haystack, a fire suddenly broke out, trapping the child inside. Despite efforts by locals to extinguish the flames, the child could not be saved, although his cousin managed to escape.

Darjeeling District Police SDPO Naxalbari Neha Jain and officers from the Bidhannagar Investigation Center arrived at the scene. The child’s body was sent to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) for autopsy. Local panchayat member Deepa Ghosh Khan also visited the site. The police are investigating the incident.
