Siliguri, 20th February: 26 buffaloes have been rescued and a person identified as Dilsad (28) was arrested in the incident. He is a resident of the Azadnagar area of Uttar Pradesh.
It has been learned that based on a tip-off, the Bidhan Nagar police launched operations in Muraliganj check post under Phansidewa block of Siliguri sub-division and detained a container. Police conducted a search and rescued 26 buffaloes from the container.
According to police sources, the buffaloes were being transported from Panjipara in Uttar Dinajpur district to Assam for smuggling. The arrested accused was taken to Siliguri sub-divisional court on Sunday.
