Siliguri, 06th July: Tension prevailed after a youth’s body was recovered from the Mahananda River in Siliguri and later identified by his family.
The deceased has been identified as Sonu, a resident of Bhupendra Nagar under Ward No. 42 in Siliguri. The family has alleged that he was murdered and demanded a fair and thorough investigation.
According to family members, Sonu left home on Sunday morning in a normal and healthy condition but did not return even late at night. After repeated searches yielded no results, they approached Bhakti Nagar Police Station to file a missing complaint.
Later, police informed the family that a body of an unidentified youth had been recovered from the Lal Mohan Maulik Niranjan Ghat area of the Mahananda River. The body was recovered by Khalpara Outpost police in the evening and later sent for post-mortem examination at North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH).
The family identified the deceased at the district hospital, after which they lodged a written complaint at Bhakti Nagar Police Station, raising suspicion of murder and demanding strict action.
Police have initiated an investigation to determine whether the death was a case of murder or suicide.
