Siliguri, 24th August: The Siliguri Bazar Post Office located in Milanpally area has been targeted by miscreants for the third time in recent weeks, with two fans reportedly stolen from the premises. The repeated incidents have raised concerns among employees over security arrangements at the government office, while the absence of fans amid the summer heat has also made working conditions difficult.
According to reports, the same post office was targeted earlier, when several items were stolen. Before the investigation into that incident could be completed, miscreants allegedly entered the post office again on Sunday night and stole two fans.
The theft came to light on Monday morning, causing panic among the staff. Police from Siliguri Police Station reached the spot and initiated an investigation into the incident.
Post Office in-charge Mausumi Saha said senior departmental officials have been informed about the theft. The post office operates from the P&T Quarters complex in the Milanpally area of Siliguri.
Saha said that most of the quarters in the complex remain unoccupied, allegedly making the area a hub for anti-social elements after dark and contributing to frequent thefts and other criminal activities.
She has called for the installation of adequate CCTV cameras, increased police patrolling and stronger security measures for both the post office and the entire complex. Police are currently investigating the matter.
