Kharibari, 24th October: A youth was killed in an attack by a wild elephant at Dangarbhita village of Buraganj of Kharibari block. The deceased has been identified as Lapai Mardi. Reportedly, he was fishing early in the morning in the river near Tukaria forest, when a wild elephant suddenly attacked him, killing him on the spot.
On receiving the news of the incident, the personnel of Tukriajhar Forest Range Office and Kharibari police station reached the spot. The body of the youth was recovered and sent to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital for postmortem.
Meanwhile, after the incident, Kishori Mohan Singh of Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad (SMP) and Panchayat members also reached the spot. Singh expressed grief over the incident and said that all kinds of help would be given to the victim’s family on behalf of the Forest Department.
