Siliguri, 13th August: A man died after being hit by a train in the Rajendra Nagar area under Ward No. 01 of Siliguri Municipal Corporation on Thursday. The incident triggered panic in the area, with a crowd gathering near the railway tracks after news of the accident spread.
Following the incident, personnel from Pradhan Nagar Police Station and Siliguri Junction GRP reached the spot. The GRP recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem examination.
According to preliminary information, a train was travelling from NJP towards Siliguri Junction during the afternoon when the man was present on the railway tracks. He was hit by the train and died on the spot. His head was separated from his body in the accident.
The identity of the deceased has not yet been established. The GRP has taken the body into custody and started an investigation.
The GRP said the actual cause of the incident would be ascertained after the investigation.
