Siliguri, 14th August: Fire broke out at a clothing shop in Siliguri’s Hawkers Corner market at around 11:30 am on Friday, triggering panic among traders and visitors in the area.
The fire spread quickly, prompting local traders to make initial efforts to douse the flames. Two fire engines later reached the spot and began efforts to bring the fire under control.
The fire was eventually brought under control through the joint efforts of firefighters and local traders. A clothing shop was damaged in the fire, while goods at two adjoining shops were also reportedly damaged due to water used by the fire department to douse the flames.
The incident led to a crowd gathering in the market area for some time. However, the prompt response of the fire department helped prevent a major mishap.
The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, and the fire department has started an investigation into the incident.
