Jalpaiguri, 14th August: An unidentified youth was found dead in an area adjacent to the Teesta railway bridge in Jalpaiguri, triggering tension in the area. The youth reportedly had sharp weapon injury marks on his neck and face.
Several liquor bottles were allegedly found scattered around the area. Police are initially suspecting that the youth may have been killed following an incident at a gathering involving alcohol and substance use. However, the exact circumstances behind the death remain unclear.
Following the incident, personnel from Jalpaiguri Kotwali Police Station reached the spot. The identity of the deceased has not yet been established. Police recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem examination before starting an investigation.
Local residents and a Gram Panchayat member alleged that gatherings involving alcohol and substance use take place almost every day in the area adjacent to the Teesta railway bridge. They claimed people from different areas visit the spot at night to consume alcohol and other substances.
Police said the exact circumstances and manner of the death will be ascertained during the investigation. Identifying the deceased is also expected to help investigators make further progress in the case.
Forensic experts are being consulted to collect samples from the spot and examine available evidence. Jalpaiguri Kotwali Police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
