Kurseong, 13th August: West Bengal Legislative Assembly Speaker Rathindra Bose visited the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Museum at Gidda Pahar in Kurseong and said no remarks should be made about Netaji that hurt the sentiments of the people.
Rathindra Bose said Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose is not merely a name but an emotion, a matter of pride and an unforgettable chapter in India’s freedom struggle.
During his visit, the Speaker spoke about initiatives to make the Netaji Museum more modern and attractive. He said the historic site needs to be promoted not only at the local level but also on the global map.
Bose said he would place a proposal before Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari to promote the museum so that it becomes better known among tourists and people from across India and abroad can learn about Netaji’s history and his contribution to the freedom struggle.
“We are proud of Netaji. He played a major role in the country’s independence. There is nothing new to say about him. Netaji cannot be erased. No one should make any remarks about Netaji. If anyone has done anything wrong, the government will take action,” Bose said.
Museum in-charge Ganesh Pradhan welcomed the Speaker’s initiative and said many tourists visit the museum every day, but several visitors are still unaware of its location and historical significance.
Pradhan said greater publicity and infrastructure development are needed to bring the museum to the attention of more people. He said the museum remains open from 10:30 am to 4:30 pm, while arrangements are sometimes made to open it beyond the scheduled hours for tourists in special circumstances.
