Youth allegedly strangled to death after argument during drinking session; two arrested in Siliguri

Siliguri, 04th June: Police have arrested two persons in connection with the alleged murder of a 21-year-old youth who was strangled following a dispute during a drinking session in Siliguri.

On 22 May, a body was recovered from a forested stretch on the riverbed of the Mahananda near Naukaghat in Ward NO. 31, an incident that caused widespread concern in the area. The case was taken up for investigation by NJP Police Station.

The deceased was identified as Soukumar Parida, also known as Lama, aged 21, a resident of Nichpara under Jalpai More in Jalpaiguri district.

During the investigation, police detained Sanjib Das of Natun Para, Jalpai More, and Bishal Das of Ashoknagar. During questioning, they allegedly confessed that on the night of 21 May, the three had been consuming alcohol together when an argument broke out.

The dispute escalated, following which the two accused allegedly strangled Soukumar Parida to death. They then transported the body in a van to the Nauka Ghat area and dumped it in the forested riverbank before fleeing the spot.

The accused were produced before the Jalpaiguri court on Thursday.
