Siliguri, 16th January: Sensation ensued after some miscreants attacked a youth and robbed money and a mobile phone from his possession. The matter took place on Sunday night in the Baribhasa Bhabesh More area of Siliguri. The said youth sustained injuries in the incident injured. The victim has been identified as Riju Roy, a DTH worker and was returning home from work around 10:30 PM.
Reportedly, while on the way he made a quick stop near Bhabesh More. This is when some miscreants allegedly vandalized his vehicle and demanded money from him. On refusing to comply with their demands, the thugs attacked him with hockey sticks and sharp weapons. After this, they escaped with Rs 27,300 and a mobile phone kept in the said vehicle while the youth was on the road in an injured state. Later, he was rescued by the locals who took him to Siliguri District Hospital.
After first aid, Riju Roy lodged a written complaint at the NJP police station against the accused, Sanjay Das, and two others. Based on the complaint, the police have started investigating the entire incident. With such an occurrence of crime, people have been raising concerns about safety in the city. In this regard, Siliguri Police Commissioner Akhilesh Chaturvedi said that they will investigate the incident.
