Women of Sahudangi’s Bhelki Para engaged in making garlands ahead of Durga Puja

Rajganj, 08th September: Durga Puja celebrations are only a few weeks away and the preparations are in full swing. In regard to this, women of Bhelki Para of Sahudangi area are engaged prepping garlands for the Puja. The work of making garlands is not much throughout the year as it is during the time of Puja. Thus, women are beaming with happiness during the time when Puja approaches.

In Bhelki Para of Farabari area under Binnaguri Gram Panchayat of Rajganj block, women from many families make garlands. They make garlands as per the demand. Then they hand these garlands to their owners in Siliguri. Anita Barman, a resident of Bhelki Para, said that her husband works as a daily wage labourer. That’s why women like her who stay at home make garlands out of flowers as a little source of income to spend during the time of Durga Puja.

On the other hand, another woman named Priya Roy said that her husband goes out to work as a daily wage labourer and cited the reason for her to earn something while staying at home. She also added that the money she earns from the garlands will be spent on Puja. Although the demand for making garlands throughout the year is less, during the worship, the demand is more. Priya cited that with such opportunities she tries to make the most of it and earn as much as she can.
