Siliguri, 12th August: Amid rising cases of cyber fraud, Siliguri Metropolitan Police has intensified its efforts to combat both cyber and ATM fraud while conducting awareness programmes for the public.
Siliguri Metropolitan Police Commissioner Syed Waquar Raza said police are carrying out continuous operations against cyber fraud and ATM fraud gangs.
As part of the awareness initiative, cyber awareness programmes are being conducted at around 134 schools across Siliguri and adjoining areas. The campaign has already been completed at around 50 schools, where students are being informed about different methods of cyber fraud and ways to stay safe.
Meanwhile, police have arrested two accused in separate ATM fraud cases over the past 10 days. Matigara Police and Medical Outpost Police carried out the arrests.
Medical Outpost Police arrested Jagannath Gharami, who allegedly cheated people by replacing their ATM cards on the pretext of helping them. Police recovered 19 fake ATM cards from his possession.
The Police Commissioner urged people not to share their ATM card details, PIN, OTP or other confidential banking information with strangers. He also advised people to immediately inform police about any suspicious activity.
He further stated that Siliguri Metropolitan Police would continue strict action against both cyber fraud and ATM fraud to ensure public safety.
