Siliguri, 12th August: Matigara Police arrested a youth with around 400 grams of brown sugar near Gate No. 2 of North Bengal University (NBU) in Siliguri. The arrested accused has been identified as Prakash Mandal, a resident of Ashrampara in Naxalbari.
According to police, they received information that a youth would arrive outside NBU Gate No. 2 carrying a consignment of brown sugar. Following the information, a plainclothes police team increased surveillance in the area.
The team intercepted the suspect after he arrived at the location. During a search, police allegedly recovered around 400 grams of brown sugar from his possession, following which he was arrested.
According to the preliminary investigation, the accused had allegedly arrived at the location to deliver the brown sugar, but police intercepted him before the delivery could take place.
Police will register a case against the accused under the NDPS Act and produce him before the Siliguri court on Thursday. The investigation is underway.
