Rajganj, 21st May: A tragic road accident claimed the life of an elderly woman in Rajganj after she was hit by a speeding bike while returning home from her daughter’s house. The incident took place on Wednesday night at Gokulbhita area along the Siliguri-Ambari State Highway in Rajganj block.
The deceased has been identified as Alpi Roy, a resident of Pelkabhita village under Ambari Falakata area of Rajganj block.
According to sources, the elderly woman had gone to visit her daughter’s house two days ago. On Wednesday night, she was returning home in a e-rickshaw (toto). Soon after getting down from the vehicle, a speeding bike allegedly hit her with force. It has been alleged that the biker fled the spot immediately after the accident. Alpi Roy sustained severe head injuries in the incident.
After receiving the information, police from Bhorer Alo Police Station and Canal Road Traffic Outpost reached the spot. The injured woman was rushed to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) in an ambulance, where doctors declared her dead.
Police have launched a search for the absconding biker and an investigation into the incident is underway.
