Woman missing for over 10 years finally returns to her family in Siliguri

Siliguri, 15th December:  With the help of social workers and health officials, a woman returned to her home after almost ten years. Meena Mirda, a resident of Kilkote tea garden under Meteli block, had gone missing about 10 years ago. Her family members searched for her whereabouts for a long time but could not find any trace of her. After which they had almost given up hope of getting her back.

It is to be noted that on November 30, a mentally challenged woman was admitted to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital for treatment. She was undergoing treatment but was not able to tell her name and address. Eventually, the NBMCH Management sought the help of the Legal Aid Forum. The woman’s family was traced within 12 hours under the leadership of the forum’s president Amit Sarkar and with the help of Hasimara’s social worker Shukla Debnath.

After this, Meena Mirda was handed over to her family today. During this, Medical College Dean Sandeep Sengupta, Assistant Supervisor Goutam Das, Animesh Barman, Dev Kumar Pradhan, Bangaratna Bharti Ghosh and Legal Aid Forum President Amit Sarkar were present.
