Siliguri, 11th August: Pradhan Nagar Police conducted a surprise drive at the Gulma picnic spot on Tuesday afternoon and detained several people allegedly found drinking alcohol in public. Police also recovered several liquor bottles from the spot.
According to information, a large number of people visit the banks of the Gulma River for picnics. However, allegations had surfaced that some visitors were openly consuming alcohol under the guise of picnicking, affecting the surrounding environment and creating inconvenience for local residents.
Following complaints from local residents, Pradhan Nagar Police launched a drive in the Gulma area. During the operation, several people allegedly found drinking alcohol in public were detained.
The liquor bottles recovered from the spot were destroyed by the police.
The police action created tension in the area, while Pradhan Nagar Police stated that similar drives against public drinking at the Gulma picnic spot would continue in the future.
