Woman kidnapped from Assam rescued from Siliguri, one arrested

Siliguri, 01st March: The Assam police, in a significant collaboration with the Bidhannagar police, arrested an accused from Bidhannagar on charges of abducting a woman. The accused has been identified as Kankan Bhattacharjee (37), a resident of Assam. Meanwhile, the police also rescued Bitumoni Bora (29).


It is reported that Bitumoni Bora, wife of Dhanti Bora of Biswanath police station in Assam, went missing on February 15 while collecting groceries. Following this, Dhanti Bora filed a formal report about his wife’s disappearance at the Biswanath police station on February 28. While investigating the case based on the complaint, the Assam Police discovered that Bitumoni’s location was indicating the Bidhannagar area adjacent to Siliguri.

Following this, Bitumoni was safely rescued with the assistance of the Bidhannagar police station in the Darjeeling district. Subsequently, the authorities arrested Kankan Bhattacharjee on allegations of kidnapping Bitumoni. On Friday, the Assam Police brought the accused before the Siliguri court and transported him to Assam on a 3-day transit remand.
